The Shine Run: What many would call the highlight of Ponies In The Smokies, The Shine Run takes participants on a “modified poker run” of sorts through a half dozen or so stops around the area all with amazing drives. Main stays like Man Cave Metal and Deals Gap Motorcycle Resort(The Tail Of The Dragon) find their way back year after year. While other stops like various moonshine distilleries, an air plane museum, museum of the Cherokee and even a salt and pepper shaker museum rotate in and out of the list of stops. Participants take their Shine Run card to the various stops to complete their five card poker hand. Farther away stops are sometimes worth two cards. You can complete only five stops or finish them all and take your best five cards. Once completed, your card is turned in on Thursday night at the Shine Run party. Once the hands are scored and ordered by rank, prizes are given out starting with the best hand down and going from there. The top hand receives a trophy for “The Fastest Bootlegger In Sevier County” as well as their choice of prize. The grand prize is $2000 dollars in cash.
